Two young men stopped to talk and asked about my background. Would they find me online, they wondered. I told them they would certainly find details about my retirement from forty two years of teaching at Dio, along with traces from past exhibitions. Did I have a website. No, not exactly, I said, then recalled my recent two hour interview on Creative Connections. I gave them the names.
They pulled out their phones and began tapping. Within seconds they both looked up, triumphant. There you are.
It was not the prints in front of them that sealed the moment, it was the confirmation of a digital presence, a reminder that the Creative Connections interview has not only given me a platform that continues to link my practice with my own history, but also gives me significant connections to others.
I have a voice now that speaks to this present generation and at the same time looks to the past and into the future.
Mandy, I wanted to send a personal thank you for the Creative Connections interview. You created such an open and thoughtful space that the conversation flowed with an ease I had not expected. Your questions were generous and perceptive, and you managed to draw out layers of my practice and history that I often take for granted.
I came away feeling seen as an artist in a way that was both affirming and energising. The reach of your platform is remarkable, but what matters most is the integrity and care you bring to every interview. You shine a light on people’s stories and work with real skill.

Mandy has a very natural and approachable style to her interviewing process. She is professional and respectful but also totally engaging and clearly loves what she is doing. She comes across as being honest and totally trustworthy. For artists and gallerists alike this is so very important as we all have stories to tell and we all want them told. And listened to as well. Creative Connections, in our opinion, totally lives up to its name and is fast becoming an essential go-to vehicle for discovering the rich, diverse and passionate artists and creatives that reside within the shores of Aotearoa. The more this vehicle becomes available the better it is for the artists and creatives as it provides them with an opportunity for the people that consume their outputs to be better informed. I cannot think of a better vehicle currently available on the market that provides the creator and the consumer with the aforementioned bonuses.

The visual art sector is constantly facing challenges whether these are financial or technological with the rise of AI-generated images. Podcasts such as Creative Connections give artists and potential customers the opportunity to get to know other artists, engage in their world and discover there is a very real person behind each piece of art that has faced struggles and challenges and overcome them. Creative Connections helps artists realise they are not alone in their battles, and helps potential clients get to know the person behind the artwork.

This podcast is a treasure trove of information and should be seen as both an archive of artsist working in NZ today and a tool for up and coming artists regarding professional development and information about the " how to be an artist"

New Zealand artists need Mandy's podcast. Lovers of art also need Mandy's podcast. There aren't many similar podcasts available within NZ, and so we greatly value Mandy's input into the artistic community. But it's not only for the artists. It's for anyone wanting to familiarise themselves with our local artists, perhaps to do some research before a purchase of an artwork or to keep up to date with what's happening in NZ creative circles. It's so good to hear local content.
